Emergency? Call 0330 520 1963Electronic sonar drain tracing is a non-invasive method for locating, mapping, and depth-surveying underground drainage pipes without excavation. We introduce a high-frequency signal transmitter into the drain run and use surface receivers to track the signal accurately to ±10cm horizontal and ±5cm depth — effective to 6 metres below surface. GPS integration produces a scaled drainage plan showing pipe routes, depths, and inspection chamber locations. Sonar drain tracing is required for planning applications involving extensions and basement conversions, for insurance mapping purposes, and for locating drains before construction work begins.
We assess access points, identify inspection chambers, and plan the transmitter introduction route before the trace begins.
A high-frequency sonar transmitter is introduced into the drain. It travels with the flow, transmitting its position to the surface.
Surface receivers detect the transmitter signal and log the pipe route with GPS coordinates and depth measurements.
A scaled drainage plan is produced from the GPS data, showing pipe routes, depths, and chamber locations for planning and building control use.
